I need to get some petroleum ether. A scientist told me it burns freaking awesome and I just need a little to experiment with. Where can I buy some or how can I make some?

I realize it's dangerous and blah blah blah safety first blah...I know more about danger than the average dumbass. Anyways, where can I buy it in small amounts? I don't need a barrel of it to explode my house with. Or is there a way to make it?

Petroleum ether is (contrary to the name) just a temperature fraction when distilling raw oil, no ether bonds are involved.

It gets marketed in different ranges of boiling points, and differs only slightly from ordinary car fuel. Unless you want to use it for chemical extractions, lighter fuel or cleansing solvent (benzine) probably will be a good substitute - basically the same stuff without a chemical label on it, and without purity guarantee.

Just about any chemical supplier (Aldrich, Fisher, V W R, etc.) will sell petroleum ether. The chemical grade stuff is fairly cheap as solvents go, but rather expensive for a home budget - about $20 for 500 mL.

Petroleum ether is a very volatile, very dagerous substance - much more flammable than gasoline. Simply having it in your home is a risk, as most people (and I assume you) do not own a
proper, ventilated safety cabinet.

Toluene, hexane, or xylene; maybe. If you get a can of starter fluid (for a car) and turn it so only the gas pressurizing it comes out. You can remove the gas and leave the petroleum ether.

You need to get a local responsible adult involved with any such experimentation. They can get it for you and monitor its use. I could tell you where to get it, but it's unlikely anyone would sell it to you.

you just get in touch with those people who are dealing in this and to get them you have to go to any chemicle company like ALKYLAMINES to get the data of these people, but it is very hard to get this data.

Well from my knowledge, petrolieum is like oil. And to get oil all you have to do is find a mechanic store that sells it.
