Cinemax makes money through the amount of sunscribers they receive. Their profits are not based on advertisements of other companies, so that is why you pay a larger amount of money to receive the cinemax channels rather than cable channels. They also sometimes host big exclusive events such as boxing matches, world premier movies, their own television shows, and comedic acts. The company will than promote that certain event so that they can get more subscribers and in turn more money.

They first have to have a product pple want to see, figure how much they think their worth as a whole and charge each cable system the rate they want. Thent he cable provider does packages or what not and tries to get you to take it. But the networks like Max also do deals to help get you to be a part as their customer.

I work for one of the 3 largest cable providers in the US. This is exactly how it is done. The cable provider itself has no controle over what it is. But does pose influence. Just like customers tword the cable company.
