American always consider their struggle as patriotic and indeed American initiative.

In the eye of the present white American population. A non white can never become a true American despite getting a passport or green card. White Americans have this ingrained in their heart

It depends what you mean by being "American". If being American means becoming Christian, eating fast food, getting fat, being loud and obnoxious, and driving an American car, then nothing. However, if you consider my version of being American is being educated, learning to think critically and logically, interacting and learning from an extremely diverse group of people with diverse interests, and learning to be happy despite hours of L.A. traffic, then there is a lot to gain. However I think we all gain less if people just shed all their cultures that they came here with - part of what makes this country great is that I have had a Jewish roommate, a Punjabi Sikh roommate, a gay roommate, and Palestinian roommate - and they've all taught me different things about their cultures/ family traditions/etc.

Years ago Europeans, etc. used to be considered the ethnics and then about 15 years ago the black people said they were the only ethnics. So I'm not sure what exactly your question is or who exactly you are asking about.
