They are not harmful, they are good luck! Your gecko will seek water and, when he does, you can capture and release him. They do not bite and are really quite nice. Please don't hurt yr Gecko.

Please don't use double sided tape on it. That ripped out my dog's hair on accident. I can only imagine what it would do to a lizard!
I think the best way to trap it is by waiting for it to come out and then scoop him up in a jar or something. They are not harmful. We have them all over our porch & we enjoy watching them.
I know my advice wasn't really helpful. Sorry.
Good luck!

Good luck lol. Used to get them in the house quite a bit in Florida. They're very quick & like you said, like to hide. They're harmless. And they do bite, but it doesn't hurt, just like a pinch really. If you can get it on a wall or floor, something flat, sneak up on it, and cup your hands and barricade it in. Then try to gently scoop it up. I've found that's probably the easiest way since they're so quick. And, in case you didn't know, their tails will snap off (they'll regrow) defense mechanism they have. So don't grab it by the tail, it'll just get loose again :)

Hello- You could try to bait it, find out what it is, what food, bugs or fruit, greens. Maybe a PRO. can help.
