My son is 8 months old, and during most diaper changes he grabs at himself. I know that is something that nearly all babies do, but he does it really hard. Do any of your kids do that? He won't hurt himself, will he?

If it hurts him he will stop. My son acts like he's going to tear all his bits off sometimes! Just make sure his fingernails aren't too sharp.

I have had to institute a "let me wipe, then you can" play policy though!

My daughter who is 10 months old also grabs herself down there when I am changing her diaper and when she is taking a bath. I doubt that they will hurt themselfs and if they do well then they will know not to do that again right. If you are really conserned about him hurting himself talk to his docter and get his opinion.

Don't worry about it. All of my boys did it.
I agree with what all the folks said about fingernails & such. Just check it periodically and make sure it isn't scratched or anything.
All kids do this and your son is totally normal. He won't "pull it off" or pull too hard. He'll stop if it's painful.

I see everyone's son doing this, but my daughter just started a few weeks ago. I was surprised, thinking this happened early but I guess not as she's already 11mths. She's also just figured out a little finger fits nicely into a little nose LOL. I try to stop her but sometimes she is PERSISTENT.

well queen chesse alot of babies to a lot of discovring at that age and he wants to know more about his body, and him grabing it hard.. babies are so smart trust me he will stop if it hurts. but it could be a problem with him as well.. ask a doctor if he keep doing it .. it can be something he might need a doctor to look at.

You gotta be kidding! I don't know of any cases where infants were brought to the emergency room for fondling themselves too forcefully. Relax Mom, just goes to show you, it starts with infancy and we never grow out of it.

I watch two 18 months old and they still do that but one slaps it but he still laughs about it. And they use to tug on it like they were trying to take it off but it still never seem to hurt them. If it does hurt him he will figure it out.

you have nothing to worry about other than the fact that this habit will subside in about 20 years...buy a lock for his bedroom

It's doubtful that he would injure himeself. Keep his fingernails short so he doesn't scratch or scrape himself.
