under the name of New England State..that's a good Idea,
why not?

I used to live in Connecticut and it actually has the richest per capita in the country. So if they were to join with some other states they'd actually have to share their wealth...

actually it's 6 states. As another poster mentioned they would lose a lot of representation .and therefore power.Instead why not break up some big states into smaller more natural units
California could be come 3 states SOCAL , NOCAL , and another state located East of I-5 , South Of I-80 and North of I-40
Make NYC and LI a separate state. Make the the Navajo reservation a separate state. Use the commonality of culture as a basis for the decision. Urbanites and suburbanites in Chicago have nothing in common with the downstate farmers so why should they be allowed to make decisions on each others fates ?
Re draw the map by creating new states.

1 New England state = 1 governor, 2 senators, maybe 12 congressmen.
6 states = 6 governors, 12 senators, 12-14 congressmen.
Get it?

because they would lose seats in the House & Senate... also more people controlled by 1 governor, look at california... soooo many different cultures mean a bunch of varieties of constituents who can't agree on something... better to have a bunch of small states with more power, than a single state with little power... 2 senators from rhode island have as many votes as the 2 senators from texas...

Those states were settled by different groups
for different reasons. The people who have lived their for any time at all, know their history and heritage and cherish it.

Would you like to give up your identity as a member of your family and change it to one name with all the other people on your block?
Most people wouldn't, not even those who have been adopted.

eventually with global warming we will be able to call them the "BEACH"

And if California ever slips into the ocean(they've been promising it for yrs) the rest of the country will be so much nicer.
