I'm going in a few days and I wanted to know:
Xcaret or Xel-ha?
Chichen Itza or Tulum?
I want to pick the better of them because I'd rather have more beach time than bus tour time.

Xcaret is about a 45 mins. - 1 hour drive. It's a little diffrent than Xel-ha. Xcaret has cave rivers. I believe there are two diffrent ones. When my family and I went there it took us about an hour to swim through the whole thing. Don't worry there are exits every so often if you're feeling tired and want to get out. It was pretty cool, my 3 year old daughter loved it. I recommend you go on a week day though. We went on a Sunday and it was packed with people. They have natural made pools in the reef. A bay like beach, great food, swimming with the dolphins, all diffrent kinds of animals to see, and a night show.

Xel- Ha isn't really the same, it's about and hour and a half to two hours from Cancun. Xel-ha has a natural long lazy river with activites to do through out the ride. Like jumping off a cliff, and trying to cross from one point to another just by using a rope as your bridge. If you love to snorkel then Xel-ha is your best bet. There's a huge area to snorkel, the place might be packed but you'd never know because the snorkeling area is huge. They also have swimming with the dolphins and a few animals to see. It's beautiful there.

Tulum and Chichen Itza are a little the same both Mayan ruins but Tulum is located right next to the water.

My opinion is you can't pass on a natural water park or mayan ruins, pick either Xcaret or Xel-Ha depending on if you enjoy snorkling more or swimming through an underground river. Then pick Tulum or Chichen Itza. Then you can have experienced a little bit of all.

Xcaret, is closest and also is like "the big one" but some people prefer Xel ha, actually is ALMOST the same.

Chichen Itza is much more impressive and bigger than Tulum, but is far. Tulum is ONE morning trip while Chichen will take you an entire day, Tulum is just 1 hour driving, is small (enough to take a pic and post it in Hi5) and only has one small pyramid, while in Chichen you'll see the biggest mayan complex.

It is up to you (I should prefer Tulum) another thing is that Playa del Carmen is on the middle between cancun and tulum, you can go tulum in the morning and stop in playa del carmen in the evening, do some shopping, walk and get dinner, and then go back to cancun. Playa del carmen is AWESOME!!!

I went to cancun two years ago and i had blast. The beaches were nice and there was plenty of good places to eat. You must keep in mind that cancun is rebuilding a lot of their tourist infrastructure due to the hurricanes these last couple of years. The clubs in cancun are also really good. I had a blast when i was there. Just always keep your personaly belongings by you. Depending on which hotel you stat at, the workers are known for going in your room and goinig through your stuff.

I live in cancun and is preferable that you know Xcaret because it has just like Xelha and still more. Purchases tour from the hotel zone of same Cancún and they bring to you. Tulúm is here to 120 kms. from towards the south and chichén itzá almost to 250 towards the west, reason why it is to your election. Near tulúm they are also the ruins of Cobá so you can visit the two
