I think any form of rape will defiantly effect the victim for the rest of there life. It can’t be undone. Of course how they respond to it and whether or not they move past it in any way can very from person to person. I think all rape is violent, but I would think that the more violent the rape the more trauma would be caused. I defiantly think it is worse and harder for the victim if they know who the rapist was or knew them before the rape. The closer the relationship; the greater the trauma. An impotent thing to remember is that there are groups to help those who have had to live through this awful experience. A common misconception by the victim is that they where responsible some how and they don’t deserve any treatment or attention.

Are you crazy?
Rape--forced intercourse--often screws up the person for life! It effects their trust and intimacy and creates post traumatic stress.
" Do you think the age of the rapist and the age survivor matters, and what about how it happened. Do you think its worse if its more violent or if its done by someone close to the survivor?"
Isn't that obvious? Of course!
Is it "overrated"--No.
Another opinion: I don't mean blame the victim, but teens/women SOMETIMES put themselves in situations that make them easier targets. Considering how serious the affects, we must be pro-active in protecting ourselves. (Some attacks are impossible to avoid, however.)

Very serious, both for the rapist and the victim.
Rapists do it t for sexual gratification, but as a sign of wanting to dominate and have power over another person. Rapists have severe pyschological issues.
Victims of the rape may become scared, and confused. They don't understand why it happened to them, and why the rapist did it. They may not know how to feel about the situation.
I don't think that the age of the rapist matters, nor does his/her age difference from the victim. Rape is rape, and it's a sad thing.

I KNOW I feel differently about this than most American women, but I think a lot of the stigma in our culture about rape has been made and magnified by the culture itself. The mental damage is real!! But not caused by the act of the rape nearly as much as the environment in which we live. Cultures that accept what we would call rape, have "survivors" with apparently no lasting mental problems over the incidents. We also have statutory rape, we have date rape (which assumes the male partner is always at fault, even if both were drunk). We have rape of wives by husbands, even though no injuries were caused by use of force, and many Christian fundamentalists think it's the man's right to have sex with the women.
Many issues here. Perhaps the word "rape" has been demonized and used more than it should be?

rape affects you for the rest of your life... it is not over rated by any means--- i was raped at age 12... the event was so horrific i basically blocked it out until around age 35... when you become unblocked its not like a memory...its more like you relive the whole thing over again... i became suicidal because i couldnt understand what was happening to me and actually had to be committed to a mental health facility for a while... this person was not close but he wasnt a stranger either ...it totally affects your self esteem and at that young an age you question your sexuality because you feel like it was your fault somehow...this guy was wanted by the FBI .... it was an extremely violent act --- and i suppose i was lucky to survive--- legitimate to screw up your life--hell yes--- over rated? i dont think so ...i know how it affected me..i can imagine women suffer the same or even worse

I think rape, no matter where and when it occurs, or by whom, is just plain wrong. This action takes away from one of the greatest joys of life - love making.
My girlfriend wasn't actually raped but there was touching by her step father. Now some 8 years later it still haunts her. Sex is very tough sometimes.
I think it is just as bad as murder. Honestly you take away the person's whole world when this happens. They don't have a clue why it happened and they look at the world differently.
I think it's just about the same as murder except this person cannot die and escape from the pain - they have to live their earthly days away with that memory.

Rape is against one's own will. If someone does not want to do you, get over it. Some idiotic men think that they can make women have sex with them and use violent means. Some women are even killed and this means teenagers and kids both male and female.
I think it is horrid and has to be stopped. Sometimes I think sex is a bad thing because it makes phedofiles act like this.

I'm not the average man answering. I'm a Christian man.
Rape is a crime of terror. Terrorist are not looked on well in this world. According to the Word of God, it carries a death penalty.
I believe that a person who takes anyone by force should receive the judgment called out in the Bible. And that is death.><>

it absolutely destroys the survivors... it leaves them psychologically scarred. it makes them feel powerless, worthless, and disgusting. all of their relationships with the other gender are changed because of it. some are affected so badly they can never have sex again, they will never get married, and they will never have the joy of a family.
