Yes and hanging, since we have become more " civilised " the crime rate has increased right across the board. This can only be because the punishment has become very soft. No criminal cares now what they do against society, they know their punishment will be laughable. The thought of a birching or hanging would change a lot of this attitude towards crime. The government should at least have Boot Camps to learn younger criminals what discipline is and try to teach them a worthwhile job or trianing for the armed forces. Better still bring back National Service, that would direct their energy into a worthwhile cause. Are the crimes against society also considered " civilised " Make the Punishment fit the Crime.

Definately, they need harsher punishments. Jail sentances are getting more lenient and offenders are released too early cos of lack of space!! Sorry dont wash in book. As much as crime is wrong, if they're gonna do it, they're gonna do it, but id rather the money be spent on making more prisons rather than letting them out early to reoffend. Look at that girl, marie anne, her attackers had been released early. Definately bring some kind of punishment such as that back.

Yes I would bring them back, trouble is the PC brigade and human rights commission would stop it wouldn't they, you can't go round hurting those poor criminals now can you is what they'd say, it would be a really good way to cut down on the criminal fraternity big time, a good old flogging in public would sort them out and while were at it bring the stocks back too, I have a kilo of tomato's in the fridge ready and waiting to be chucked at a criminal or two.

Yes i certainly would. I mean these people get in jail and just sit around all day and do nothing. Apart from living your life in jail there is no real punishment. If they got the living daylight wacked out of them daily etc it might do something. Some people may think it will damage their minds. All I can say is what about the minds of their victims and those affected by the act.

Yes, why not. The crime that goes on in this country is even hidden behind evil cloaks. Wouldn't it be fun to put them in stocks in public where people can stare at them and laugh their a s s e s off over the humiliation of it all. It'd work better than having them sit in cells watching color tv's and eating candy bars and smoking or utilizing computers to find wives.........

No, I think they should bring back the stocks. Stick a criminal in the middle of town and give all those disgusting people who chew gum and smoke a place to dispose of it!

Yes, I think that that would help put young people off crime. However, the danger is that these things would be misused, which is why they were taken away before.
