By standards 18 is the max...but parties are the thing for us who are 18 and over...I'm a current student at East Carolina University, and our town closes 6 blocks of nearby downtown just for Halloween/Mardi Gras Night...all the college kids, neighbors, out of town-ers join in the festivities of a night of make believe with the occasional onlooker in street clothing. Not everyone has to fall flat drunk, sober fun is the best fun. If you're town doesn't have this option grab a friend, or a former school mate...costume it up...and hit the malls...the neighborhoods, and "do the thing!" I've never been Tricking so I plan to be traveling with my stylish pumpkin on hand with a cool costume and 4 friends!

I went right up till I was 18. Me and my friends all figured we usually had better costumes than the little kids anyway, so it would make up for any other unseemliness interpreted by the homeowners.
I'd say it's fine to trick or treat for as long as you feel comfortable doing so. Just try to make sure your costume gets better the older you get -- if you are 50 and trick or treating still, you'd better have a Jack Skellington costume that you starved yourself down to 50 pounds to be able to wear ;)

My 17 yo loves it; my 13 yo hates it. You're right, grab a kid and go. There are plenty of moms who could use the help.
If you really think you are too old, go to a huanted house and then rent a scary movie. Better yet, throw your own party, but the cheapest and most fun thing to do is trick-or-treat!

take america... even 90 year olds still participate! you are taking some kids around the block too... might as weell enjoy yourself and fit into the crowd instead of sticking out like a sore thumb infront of those little monsters.

I don't think anyone is ever too old to trick or treat. Why does age matter?

I think when you start dating, your trick or treat days are over. Most people should stop by about 13. At that age if you want to go, take along a little kid so it looks like babysitting. For me the lure of free candy died some once I had a job and could buy all the candy I wanted and could chose my own type.

I don't think there is a cut-off age. Trick-or-treating is so fun, it should be for everyone, regardless of some stereotypical number.

I would say 15 is the oldest. I had fun after that, dressing up, decorating the house and passing out candy!
