Poor retirement planning. Also, it used to be that the younger generations would have a more hands on approach to caring for their elderly relatives. It seems as though it has become more convenient to place them in nursing homes where we can't observe the care they are being given. I just hope that I will make sacrifices when my parents can no longer care for themselves.

We're getting the shaft more then that. I may be one that sits in a better position better then a lot of seniors when it comes to health care but fell into something entirely different and didn't know anything about it until this year.
I thought there were Old Soldier Homes that I was able to check into. Oh sure there are, if I am medically eligible for a short period of time.
I thought Senior Housing was available for all Senior Citizens but found out differently only this year that they are not and it is based solely on the income you receive. Oh they do have some Senior Housing areas that a senior can apply for and be charged what is called a Market Rate Value if they make more then the amount allowed that the low income seniors pay and then pay twice as much or more for the same housing that the low income person pays.
I served my country for over 20+ years in the military and retired, then fufilled another job and retired. I prepared myself for retirement and now end up having to pay twice as much as others for benefits I worked for under today's system while others are given a cut rate for the same benefits because I make $5,000 or $10,000 more a year then they do. I don't call that fair in anyway, thought or meaningful respect. I call that a total SHAFT. I should be use to it by now after all the promises made to me by politicians when I was in the military years ago that they never kept. Just for one example we were told we would receive full free medical benefits for the rest of our lives for serving our country for over 20 years of service for one thing and today we pay co-pays on prescriptions and other medical benefits too. Makes me wonder how much our vets serving today are going to be shafted with more politician promises in their retirement days and suffer too. Good luck fellows.

that's like asking when are the illegals going to pay their taxes to the USA.
So, in response to your question...where do you think the money will come from? The problem as I see it is the seniors are taking too many pills already. And in some cases you can't mix the pills but they're doing it. So the health plans are set up to make people healthy and reduce the pills rather than have them take so many unnecessary pills. There are boarder canadian pharmacists who can supply them pills at a much lower cost if the people travel there to get them and show them an authentic prescription written by their doctor. You must appear in person, and I think it's that you can get a 3-month supply.
There were programs started earlier this year for seniors where they can get discounted medicines. If those seniors are in a certain income category they can get "some" food stamps, and apply for Medicare...or if they are in a very low income bracket they can apply for Medicaid.

AMEN! Your questions so sweet and awesome! I totaly agree! I saw so many turned away for the flu shot last year. And a couple years ago the state health insurance cut off insalin for 6 months...thats just sick! These people have worked all their lives and deserve better! If it wasnt for those on welfare and using it for their drug habbits or vasting in their luxurious appartment whilet the state pays their rent, then the elderly may have better health coverage. I am discusted by what our taxes go for!

Now watch how some diehards are going to blame the victims of the problem, the American poor, elderly and disabled and, of course, our American retirees that gave their health and youth in support of this nation!
There was a time when people were proud of working at a job for 25/30 years and they bragged about their loyalty to the company. That no longer exists. New and modern cutthroat management practices where those employees that have moved up the ladder through years of dedicated work, that have shown good work ethics and have given the companies years of excellence are now finding that they were bushwacked and the benefits they were promised years ago are now being cut back or have been made to disappear by the new breed of highly paid CEOs and new management teams… those that feel that their only obligation is the greedy, bloodthirsty stockbrokers and never to the hired hands, the employees that can easily be replaced by cheaper hands.
What’s a person nearing retirement to do when they are deemed, “redundant” (ya gotta love those euphemisms) by these young up-and-coming management pirates? The companies receive tax breaks from Americans and all sorts of tax “incentives” because these “American” companies hold the American public hostage and continue to take advantage of Americans with their unfair practices. They “outsource” Americans jobs, which means that they displace American workers and send the jobs out to foreign countries (for example, credit card companies, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing companies and even collecting companies that hire foreigners to call customers and harass them at home and at their jobs…) where they pay less than the American minimum wage to Third World employees that work longer work weeks and often use child labor!
What’s a person to do who dedicated his/her youth to a company that promised certain benefit only to discover that nearing retirement age those benefits are no longer there, and the funds are also not there (oftentimes they also contributed from their payroll)? How can the victim be blamed for this?
Good ol’ Dubya was one such person who became the CEO of several now defunct companies through his father’s influence… he bankrupted the companies and made off like a fat cat with millions in his pockets… but what about the employees that had worked for those companies for several decades, what about their missing retirement benefits?
I don’t understand the words. “Greed is good.” as per Michael Douglas’ movie character. I understand and accept the notion that everyone is entitled to a fair profit but I beg to ask, “HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?” There was a time when people were content to make 60¢ on a $1 investment but today people are trying to make $6 on a $1 investment!
The same AMERICAN pharmaceutical goods that poor elderly Americans were buying cheaper in Mexico and in Canada (and the Philippines) cost more here in the USA for our American poor, elderly and disabled that must subsidize the world for the sake of generating more profits for these super rich and powerful… where AMERICAN elderly, poor and disabled must decide whether to buy medicines or food. Some of our elected officials, paid by the special interest groups that represent the same American pharmaceutical companies, were outlawing Americans from saving a few dollars by buying their prescribed life-sustaining medications through the Internet or from Mexico or Canada and telling them that these medicines could not be trusted because they were coming from foreign countries… but, hold it… coming from foreign countries…? Those are the same goods that come from American pharmaceutical companies that hired foreign workers in foreign lands… and those are the same companies selling us the same products for more… what’s the difference? Are these companies selling substandard medicines to these foreign countries…? How can they not be the same if these products are made by the same companies that sell to us? Is this some double-talk (“Newspeak” as in Orwell’s “1984) or what’s going on?
Now we have this new program that will make prescription drugs affordable for the poor, the elderly and the disabled Americans… a whole slew of companies sprang up overnight! Trained and experienced health professionals, social workers and personnel in the field had immense difficulties shifting through stacks of convoluted information and the poor, the elderly and disabled were put on a time schedule to decide and there was no extra time given according to good ol’ Dubya… or the same people that this program was supposed to help would penalize them!
The only ones that are benefiting are the businesses that sprang up under several names, some owned by other companies that own two or three or four other companies… once again, Dubya has shown his masters how loyal he is… the super rich and powerful, not to the American poor, elderly and disabled. And you doubt that the American public is not getting shafted?
Where's your loyalty, to the super rich and powerful that ain't doing jackshit for you by sending American jobs overseas or to our fellow poor, elderly and disabled Americans who supported this nation with their tax monies and through their blood, sweat and tears and those that represented our nation in uniform and are now facing difficult times?

Because the illegal aliens are burning up all the available funds. I think I'll renounce my United States citizenship so I can move to Mexico and illegally cross the border and recieve free medical care.
