I was dissapointed to see my midterm mark in one of my classes. The thing is, I wasted 3 or more days reading the chapters that were assigned and doing some questions. I went over all the material but had not done good on the exam even though I though I did. I would like some tips on how to study and what works best.
I am in University and have 4 different courses mostly to do with business and accounting.

index cards, make them into flash cards, and ask a friend to quiz you

also, highlighting while you read reinforces what you have just read, and it also helps when you are studying so you can find the more important points you learned

Without knowing exactly what was on the exam and specifically how you studied and answered the questions, I can provide only generalized comments. First, it sounds like you tried to incorporate too much material in too short a time by reading all the chapters. Yes, it is important to read all the assigned readings, but you must also read and review key points in detail while skimming minor points. If the professor assigned questions, you should study those thoroughly. It may also help to schedule an appointment with the instructor for his/her thoughts on how you could do better in the course.

Read, outline each section. Make up quizzes for each topic. Make sure you can answer all of the questions.

You said you answered some questions? You need to do more then some questions.

Also, don't wait until a few days before the exam to begin to study.

Study each chapter as it comes up, know it cold. And every week build some time into your schedule to review the previous work.

Do your textbooks have websites??? I know that mine do, and they have practice questions (science and psychology - I haven't checked any others) that are very similar to exam questions, and they help me a ton. Good luck!!!

I cant help you specifically cuz I am a science major but for me, it means studying EVERYTHING, not just what seems important.
