Yes, it is possible. However, you'll spend more money in gasoline, food, places to stay, custom taxes and visas than taking an airplane.
I actually have a friend who made it from Brazil to the US, but he was kind of a hippie, he didn't have a car and it took him 5 years to make it to Florida.
About the safety issue, it depends on where you end up, who you mess around with and how much you show off. The more you let people you are American and that you are carrying money with you, the more trouble you can expect.

good question . Rumor has it there is actually a road that goes there, The same rumor says that the locals practice piracy on that road. Still assuming you survived it ,it would be a heck of a trip.
My vehicle of choice would be based around a carbureted 300 cubic inch, straight six ford engine. A great third world engine

of course it is possible,but you would need a LOT of paper work and money and a very unique truck,it would need to be rugged and versitile but at the same time invisable to thieves and people who would hi jack a nice vehicle capable of this trek.

No. Even if the car made it, you would be raped and killed, killed and raped, or just plain killed before you got there.
