However the stream of consciousness (in philosophy and literature) school whereby the author/proginetor defines his own concepts is validated. One way of looking at it is that we have to have the idea of something before it can be named, and it follows that the idea is therefore what is being named. Not to imply that the thing or its existence aren't important, it just has no role in the naming process itself.

i would say so. of course we think our ideas refer to actual things in the "real world," but if you want to be specific, our words for things are really words for our ideas of things.
