Im 21 yrs old and have a 2yr old son going on 3. I LOVE Halloween. I go all out and dress up too. Anyways, I loved getting those popcorn balls or the goody bags that have candy, stickers and pencils in them. Last yr when we took Logan, he got drinks and some ppl gave glowsticks and necklaces. He also got a Halloween balloon. Itsnt that neat? these ppl had their own helium tank and were give out balloons with glowsticks attached. I cant wait til trick or treat this yr.

I loved the excitement of decididing what to dress up as, then the adventure of parading around ours and other neighborhoods exploring and looking at all the cool decorations.
Okay, back then (the 70's) there wasn't much else to get aside from candy or caramel apples.
If youre looking for ideas...dollar stores are loaded with plastic toys, rings, stickers, pencils, etc.

I really liked it when people handed out things to drink, because I always got thirsty. Some of my neighbors handed out little 8oz cans of pop, and others gave those tiny bottles of water (sport packs or whatever). Juice boxes would probably work too. Or you could always be the rocking neighbor who gives out hot cocoa, but I suppose that's best left in a small-town atmosphere where kids and their parents know that they're safe and can trust you.

In Scotland most kids loved to be invited into each home to sing a song or recite a poem or tell a joke. We always got something special (like a penny) for giving that little bit of entertainment.

It's an alter-ego kinda thing.
And it's a special holiday, and you, as a little kid (usually with help from mom's sewing machine) you get to be something different. You can even make monster sounds that scare people, though not really.
Adults used to do this alter-ego change thing, but not so much anymore. I still find it to be good therapy once in a while.
Grrrrrrrr...........

McDonald's coupons. Do they still have that? Or is that just a Hawaii thing? I remember they would sell $5 booklets that would countain about 15-20 of their cheaper items. Like Mini ice cream cones, cheeseburgers, fries. My mom use to buy those booklets and whatever wasnt used, I gladly used myself.
i also like it when people gave me pens and pencils.

I loved getting little novelty items like Halloween pencils, costume jewelry, or other trinkets. Stuff that would last rather than be eaten or thrown away
