Why do they have to disguise their sexual preference? Freddy Mercury of Queen, George Michael, ect. sing songs about loving, making love, etc., to women. Is it because deep down they know that Gay/Lesbian relationships are immoral, and they wouldn't be able to sell songs about same sex relationships?

Apparently some people are bothered by me using the word "immoral". Here is the definition:
violating moral principles; not conforming to the patterns of conduct usually accepted or established as consistent with principles of personal and social ethics.
It's my opinion that same sex relationships fit this description perfectly.

GoldnHart: I apologize for straining your intellect. I didn't say that only heterosexuals can sing about women. All I asked was "why" gay, male singers don't sing about men. Was that too difficult for your brain to absorb?

If they sung about men then no one would buy their albums or go to any of their concerts. Homos need to accept the fact that they are not accepted in society and never will be.

I thought George Michaels was bi, not gay...
But anyway, the reason is simple marketting. The majority of the pop audience out there is straight, and want to hear songs they don't have to think about. If they hear some guy singing about his love for another guy... well, now they gotta think, and that's not what pop is about. That's why so much of the music is fairly formulaic as well... it's not there to break new ground or anything, it's there to showcase the artist's vocal talent in an understandable package.
Outside of the big-label pop/rock industry, there's a fair bit more artistic freedom. But it doesn't sell as well, partly because a lot of it is 'love it or hate it' stuff.

Let me see.. 6 billion people would buy a song about a man and woman making love.. But only 1 million of them would buy a song about two men making love.
I would try to sell to the 6 billion people.
The less you tell people about anything the better off you will be.. No matter what it is someone will not like you because of it. Best to let everyone think you are in the middle of the status quo

So, what are you worried about? That they may be after you or something? Don't be a damned liberal by trying to tell someone how to run their own life/lifestyles! MYOB. The world would be a better place if people would just shut up and let people live exactly how they want to live. I purposely go out and buy music that I hear others don't like, just to PISS them off! Like 2Live Crew for example. No one seemed to care for their rap because of the explicit language, so I bought some of their cd's. Freedom of speech is the category. Here, in America, it's what it is all about--FREEDOM. Good day. Anyone care to argue this point?

Some of them sing about people without using gender defining terms. That way someone else can sing the song to whomever they want

It would probably not be a big seller plus it could lead to being a hate crime victim. A lot of gay entertainers usually keep that kind of stuff to themselves.

I don't know if they believe that gay relationships are immoral, but I certainly think that it could have something to do with the fact that they probably wouldn't sell as much music if they talked about gay relationships.

You are very mistaken.
David Bowie
Elton John
George Michael
......just to name a few..........
They've all done songs about same-sex relationships.
Unfortunately you have to do a bit of digging to find the songs, and then you have to be able to understand the underlying lyrical message of said songs.
You are obviously not qualified to ask this question....
