Forget respect, it is how others perceive you which is less important than how you perceive yourself. Find your talents and practice them until you can do them without having to work hard at it, not that it is easy. Discover your weaknesses and find reference material on the subject and get to know it very very well. It will also help you to learn some marshal arts and display it in how you carry yourself.
Treat every human as it they have a right to exist, even if you are afraid of them. Don't beat yourself up because you respect people and give them space without them having to ask for it, or demand it.
But, also know your own boundaries. No one can do whatever they want to do anytime they want it.
If you do these things well and follow the golden rule, you will be respected and liked by most people. One more thing, don't be so sure you know yourself so well. People change over time. Good Question

Heres what i say,be yourself and whoever doesn't like you who cares they weren't worth your time anyway. The only people who do not accept gay people ,or anyone different from themselves is imply because they are uneducated. Those are the type of people who think you can get aids from sharing a soda. Be yourself. You don't have to go around screaming out that your gay,but you also don't have to hide it.You should come out of the closet.

i had several classmates who revealed their true selves on the last year of our high school... It's inevitable that a number would be shocked and disrespect them... What they did was not to mind the trash talks... They focused on what they were good at like one has very impressive leadership skills, so he concentrated on that... Eventually, all of us in school were awed in him for his extraordinary capabilities, never mind if he's gay....

Well, if you feel you can't hide in the closet much longer, let it be... Just be sure you do something that will make you standout and earn the respect you deserve....

don't resort to physical violence because you may find that you might have to keep fighting esp. the same people
Ignore them, Silence is golden. In saying this you are who you are and they are who they are and they are not getting harassed by you 4 that so they should not do the same
Being a man about things does not always mean that you need to fight things out sometimes you get noticed for taking the higher route

Hope this helps!!!!!

Sadly, I don't think there is anything you can do to fight back. I'm a 25 year old straight woman, and I'm fighting people my age to stand up for what I believe inl So, I guess what I'm saying is, people will keep their minds closed no matter what, and there is nothing you can do to change that. I'm so sorry you have to deal with these people. Try and keep your head up!

Ignore them. High school is forgotten by the time you're 21.

The only people who consider it important and sacred are the ones who didn't progress beyond it.

You've much life to live, adventures to enjoy, and the respect of children is only cute. You can do without it. Adults learn to respect survivors. Forge ahead.
