I dont know why they have the disney vauly. i too wanted little mermaid, i finally was able to buy on October 3, but I originally wanted it the November before. I think they keep it in the Disney Vault to restore it or when they arent selling enough of the movie, they keep it somewhere, the vault for example, until they think the time is right. Personally, i think the vault is pointless.

Disney does not want to dilute the value of the vault, so classic films go on sale for limited time.
In 10 years, you can get the Titanium Edition of the Little Mermaid

Don't know but I love the Robert Schmiegel cartoon about it on Saturday Night Live where they have the 1930's anti-semite cartoons locked away in the vault with Disney's head.
