You're body goes forward the log goes backward. "For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction..."

u use ur feet to walk on the log and u push it back so the log cant stay still in the water and it moves back

Im gonna take a stab in the dark and suggest because you are displacing the water underneath the front of it causing it to move back-Hope this helps :)
