When I do freestyle, after a few laps, my thighs get very tight and sore; calves are fine though. Is this normal? Am I kicking with my hips?

do you stretch before swimming? I'm not sure what the cause is. Try stretching b4 swimming and afterwards

i dont know if that is normal you should call a doctor and see maybe you just have sore musles

don't kick as hard balence your stroke. make sure you are rotating to your side when you breath and stroke. don't force the power from your legs, force the power of your stroke from your adominals.(abs) that is the power house of all the stroke.

dunno, ask a coach. it maybee if you train alot is that your REALLY sore.
