It is my understanding that Ted Turner recently gave the United Nations one Billion Dollars.

Does he own it then, or is he a lobbyist for his own personal causes, or what?

I mean what would the United Nations do with one Billion Dollars, it is my understanding that country's are very wealthy already, don't they all contribute to help each other, or does Ted own his own country?

I mean when any organization takes that kind of money from a singular individual, then do they do that persons bidding?

First of all, he did that almost a decade ago. So, obviously, it was not for his own personal causes (which have little to do with any nation other than the US consumer). I think the total was to be spread out over a few years, so that may be why you recently heard about it. I believe he spread it out so that he gave several $100 MM per year for several years.

Obviously, this amount of money would give him access to the spring membership drive cocktail party, but also obviously, no country is going to do the bidding of a US entrepreneur who has made a billion dollars b/c he had a great idea. I'm sure he's doing it out of pure moral interest and for tax advantages (I'll let you decide if you can do both at the same time).

Ted Turner invented satellite TV and truly mass communication. In the 1970s, people would be talking about the future of TV with hundreds of channels from all over the world, and Ted Turner made that happen with his WTBS, then CNN, then TNT, and on and on. As he likes to say, "I did it all without a dime of government money, too!"

Mr Turner recently declared that "capitalism is not working".
Seems an odd statement from a billionaire. This just proves that money cannot buy brains.

No, Turner doesn't own the UN but he is the proud owner of the most over-inflated ego on planet earth.

Yes, Ted owns his own country....it's named "Turner World." He get's drunk every Friday and rambles on and on until somebody gets hurt or he passes out.
