Indeed there is. The question and the follow up are unrelated. A connection between disparate persons, such as twins, to my mind, have been shown convincing. However, the question is less specific. Is there a global mind? To me the question implies an intertwined consciousness between all life. At which point we discuss the total biomass. Humans tend to think of themselves as the end all in evolution. Yet, when considered in the evolution of the biomass we are but another permutation. We lack certain traits that are considered amongst bees and other hive creatures to be relevant to a global mind, but we posses traits that have allowed us to become the dominate species none the less. In the sense of the survival of the biomass, all permutations are equal and of the same mind as all permutations allow for the evolution of the biomass

Good Question!

But I think the answer is no, but, if you consider the way thoughts travel through society, spoken, or written to one another, and ultimately affect public opinion, one could argue that there is more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye.

Many spiritualists would say there is some connection, but they are crack pot's and we don't talk about them... j/k

I think one of the most important things a person can do for them self, and everyone else, is maintain an open mind!

The idea of a "global mind" isn't something that's worth taking literally, but it can be a useful way of talking about certain aspects of the human experience. W.B. Yeats' idea of the "spiritus mundi," Carl Jung's "collective unconscious," and other ideas in that vein of thought posit that there is something fundamentally interconnected about humans, and even though it's probably not literally true, it can lead to insights about how we live and think and function in society.
