You could possibly have contracted an eye infection from the cut but the main concern is if you have a corneal abrasion which it was it seems like you have go see an optometrist they can get a better assessment of whats going on

It is not normal for the eye to have a discharge.
Contrary to what the Optometrist employee told you,you need to see an Opthalmologist to get the prescription for the medicine that will clear up this discharge properly.
ONLY an Opthalmologist can prescribe the medicine that will clear this problem up,the medicine that an optometrist prescribes merely treats the problem superficially and you will feel better for a day or two but your problem will show up again when the bacteria/virus gets back from it's vacation.
Optometrists are medically limited to what grade of presecriptions they can write and the grade of medicine you need can not be provided by an Optometrist.
If indeed you have a corneal problem you need the expert care that an Opthalmologist can provide.
An untreated corneal problem CAN lead to blindness and this is nothing to fool around with.
Flushing your eye is only a temporary solution as I am sure you have already discovered and if you are using tap water from your faucet, you could be adding bacteria to your already injured eye and adding more bacteria.
Anytime you flush your eye you should use Sterile Saline Solution.

the cut on your inner top eyelid may be scratching the cornea and anything abrasive to eye can cause infection to the eye and scratching of the cornea. This needs to be seen by your health care professional immediately.

Whether you have an infection or not is the least of your worries. You need to have your eye and head checked by your doctor. Do not waste time here, go to your doctor.

This doesn't really sound like an infection. You could keep an eyepatch on it so that the air doesn't get to it, but if your that concerned I suggest you see a doctor!!!
