Mad TV rocks my socks... Monty Python's Flying Circus is hilarious. SNL has its good points, but I'm not a huge fan...

SNL has had tons of funny bits over the 30+ years it's been on the air. it has had a few really awful years, but has produced more gems than anything else on tv. samurai delicatessen, land shark, mr. robinson's neighborhood, practically every presidential/political bit they've ever done (darrell hammond is the best! his bill clinton rules above all else!), a person could go on forever.
monty python wrote the book on comedic skits. they were the masters. my favorite skits of theirs are upper class twit of the year, the ministry of silly walks, the improper english language dictionaries ("my hovercraft is full of eels"), and best of all, the spanish inquisition (NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!). jeez, monty python and the holy grail is one big skit, quite possibly the funniest movie ever made.
madtv has had a few great moments too, but nowhere near as many as SNL. my favorite skits are the al casdy (see, do you see?) infomercials. regrettably, i've never been able to find clips on the internet, and haven't gotten around to renting the dvds yet. i enjoyed their earliest seasons best. like SNL, they've had up years and down years. another one of my favorite bits from madtv was when corky and juice pigs performed "the only gay eskimo" in studio. just hilarious!
some of my funniest memories come from the stand up comedians from the '80s. rick duccoman (first day of pilot school: rule # 1: leave the f'ing engines on! rule # 2: see rule # 1!) yeah, that's good stuff. the amazing jonathon's early work (i saw him in vegas last november, it amazed me how little his act has changed over the years), even piscopo's waaaay early stuff on HBO (especially when he ripped on good morning america: "good morning, good morning, duhhhhh, good morning! what's today's weather? there's a small craft warning! thank you joan, that's very nice! duhhhhh, good morning!") i still laugh when i think of that stuff, but i admit you probably had to be there to enjoy it.
lately the only good bits are animated. simpsons, family guy, american dad, futurama, and especially robot chicken.
in a nutshell, there's so many funny things out there to choose from, how can anyone come up with just one??? :)

Haha, that skit become hilarious. i don't know if it quite is the funniest one ever however the 1st actual Debbie Downer skit on SNL made me cry giggling because of the fact even the actors could not carry it in. i think of those with the coach on MadTV are hilarious additionally.

The funniest one I remember is one from the Carol Burnette Show. Tim Conwway plays a dentist, Harvey Korman his patient. Tim accidentally injects himself with the Novocaine. I laughed so hard I cried and my stomach hurt. As I remember, Harvey had to laugh too. You never knew what Tim would say or do that obviously wasn't in the script.
