Unfortunately, the government have made it too easy for them..What is really needed is a very basic handout barely enough to scrape by but not enough to live on, that way they will be encouraged to seek work and actually work for a living instead of mooching off all the decent wage earners. Here, you get un-employment at 30% of yout original salary for 6 months and that is it, and you would have had to contribute for a year and come change. Too many a holes out there who want money but don't have the balls to work!

Before welfare people and churches helped people who were down and out. It was a temporary situation until a father could find work or heal from an illness. It wasn't a handout but people caring about other people.
The problem with welfare is it a handout and it doesn't really promote or motivate people to get off of it. WE are seeing 5th generation welfare recipients.
Welfare should be a temporary aid for the young and healthy and a way to help the elderly and those unable to work due to disablities and or mental disorders.
I can't imagine why anyone would want to live at the level for a lifetime. Liberal America has created a monster. Classrooms and programs ment to educate welfare recipients are filled with bored housewives and woman entering the workforce for the first time. I was one of those women 22 years ago. I took an ROP class for a ward clerk transcriber. 80% of the class were welfare mothers being forced to take the class. The rest of us were housewives with working husbands just trying to gain skills to get into the work force.
The women who were on welfare, came to class sporadically and made litte to no attempt to learn the materials. There mothers and grandmothers were on welfare so why shouldn't they. They were so complacent and had no goals except to have more kids so they could collect more money from the state. They talked about ways they could con the system and get more money. They traded food stamps for drugs and alcohol and weren't embarrassed to say so....
I got a great job out of the class with the nations largest HMO, I've been there 22 years and make $45,000.00 a year and have a complete benefit package that include retirement, medical , dental, vision, mental health, 401K etc.
I think welfare needs to be stopped. WE should be weaning people off of it as soon as they apply by giving them job opportunities and education. With the exception of the elderly and the ill.
Set a time limit and when that time is up, no more welfare.....
I think the American Indian is a good example of what can happen when people depend on handouts to live. They lived on reservations, had no goals or motivation as everything was provided that met their basic needs. Fortunately the American Indians recognized this problem and pulled themselves up by the boot straps and turned their lives around.....

Political Mud slinging is a big problem but to answer your question, Yeah I understand what you mean! One guy works his tail end off to make a living only to see someone else retiring early on our tax money. However, I do agree with helping those who have situations that they have absolutely no control over. I mean if a husband leaves his wife with 5 children and flees the country, it could be really tough for her to do it on her own. But I think if you are able to work and take care of your family, and you don't it is very disgraceful. But then again some people seem to find loop holes in the system where they get there money for nothing! I'm sure the chicks would'nt be free though! Not too many women would be with a man who doesn't work!

I hate people that make broad statements like this, but I agree with you on some points. $5400 a month? That is just not true. A lot of people get by on less than $100k/family/year. A lot of people need a little extra help, and I'm good with some of my tax dollars going to help those people; especially those that are making below the poverty level. What I'm not okay with, is the person in America who is making $70k - 250k, and is whining about how things are tough for him, or how the poor man is sucking up his hard-earned tax dollars. You knew how much taxes were coming out of your check when you decided to stay in America to earn your living. There are plenty of opportunities today to earn well into the $300k+ range given you've gone to school and chosen a high-earning career path (some folks are happy with a $50k/yr job and plenty of time to fish and hang out with their kids).
I hear you on some level, but you're better off without the employees that quit because whatever you were paying them was less than what the government handout was. I mean, if you're paying someone less than the free ride, then you are getting some cheap labor.
So, obviously, the renter is lying to you. Obviously, you've exchanged income for time with your kids (which was a wise decision); what is the issue?

whaaaa???? how??? i am handicapped from MS and have to go through Vocational Rehab to find employment, which by the way, companies get a tax break for hiring Voc Rehab clients and the employee pays back into the system when they do work. It makes sense to me that legitimate disabilities can also be productive. wow, i am somehow going through the wrong channels. when i went on disability, it was discussed by my family, my three doctors, my husband and i took a long time to decide to. so the problem is not the whole system, just certain jerks who do mooch off everyone. I am thankful that in my life i had worked enought to pay into it, now after going into remission, i am able to work again. Woo Hoo, i can now go back up to middle class

Nothing is wrong with America, just the practice of some of the people. Anyone you know abusing the welfare programs should be reported. If enough honest, hard working citizens would get involved, the amount of money doled out for such programs would be reduced, then maybe our tax dollars (paid into the IRS) could be reduced.

A few hours of studying popular media will tell you all you need to know. Handouts buy more votes than helping small businesses.

Well, it sounds as if one of the things that is wrong with the U.S. is that you're not in charge of it. Some laws get made which you disagree with. Join the club. None of us are ever completely happy with all of the laws. Deal with it.
