Same reasons we have crime in our cities and towns; but on an International level. WILL NEVER< EVER> go away. It's such a waste of time and energy to think about ridding the world of war, because it cannot happen.
Controlling situations is the best humankind can do. Decide what philosophies you want in control and support them. You have choices! Mr. Madman from N. Korea???? Release Mr. Sadam because he's such a charmer, and there are Hitlers and his ilk lurking all around the world behind their religious facades who'd be glad to take over and control you. But even all that would not stop war.

America has become used to stealing the resources of other nations. Normally, they would have been able to negotiate with threats but the world has become more astute because of, believe it or not, America's "global economy" initiatives. Now other countries are outsmarting America and they need to go to war to get what they want.
Except, war hardly ever works these days, so America is losing. Soon they will get smarter people in office and figure out how to gain resources again without war.

Centuries don't necessarily shape how people think and what people believe. Some people in the world are still fighting about the same things as those who fought hundreds of years ago. It's a matter of stubbornness and the inability to see outside your own interests.

Because we aren't a perfect society where everyone works towards the good of mankind. We're all selfish in some way or another, and that can lead to fighting, or war.
We also don't have brainwash machines (thank heaven).

Until force is no longer an option to gain power, there will always be fighting and war. Granted, it's getting somewhat better in ways, sans the genocide...

There will always be war mongers in the world, I do think that we have to keep them in check but I offer no solution as to how. There is no good reason for any war but the war in Iraq was asinine from the start, we were lied to by one of those war mongers that started the war for personal gain.

Unfortunately, because there are still people and regimes in the world that who lust for nothing but power and resources. I'm not talking about the US. The United States are not the ones raping women and children in the Sudan, nor are they the ones who use all recourse's to test nuclear weapons while babies are starving to death (N Korea), we are not the ones doing the whaling, or seal hunting which is absolutely brutal, we are not the ones gassing a certain race because of intolerance of their religion.
We have war only because there are still people who wish to do harm to others, in the face of greed, power and intolerance.

Because we have too many people with vastly different opinions of how government should govern, disparity amongst resources, and no religion or moral compass to guide them......Save as in all the previous centuries.

Why wouldn't we? What do you think has changed in human nature? You think because the numbers changed on a calendar, anything is different in the real world?
