Set the stove timer, or some other timer, for maybe one hour and go like crazy until the timer buzzes. Then, give yourself a reward: a half hour of TV or sit outside with a cup of coffee and a book for a half hour. Repeat the timer-reward system until you can begin to see some improvement. Part of the problem is that the projects seem so endless with no reward in sight. If it's really out of hand, come to grips with knowing it took awhile to get like that and it will take awhile to fix it.

It usually happens when you just don't have any place to put stuff that you can't throw away. You just have to start sacrificing little bits at a time that you can do without, giving away what you feel has value and can't throw out. Do obscure cleaning...clean the dust off the ceiling fan blades and off the tv/vcr, you accomplished something with little effort. It got too big somewhere and is discouraging, but small efforts here and there are encouraging.

I know someone who trades out with a friend. In other words, they'll work for several hours at each other's house every couple of weeks.
Or, you can hire someone to come in to help. That's what I do. I'm slowly gaining on having my house like I want it. I try to stay ahead of the person helping me as far as clearing the clutter so the cleaning can be done.
Ever hear the saying, "Many hands make light work"?

First of all you have to have a reason for procrastinating, I don't believe your just lazy..Something else is happening. When you figure that out and know this is not how you want to live, it will all come to. Start in one room and do nothing else until that one is done. Maybe you start too many projects at once that is is overwhelming to you When you see one room the way you want it, You will want to get going on the others..

Just start with a small area where you are at the most often... House cleaning is like starting an exercise progamme, its hard to get started, but after you get going and after you're done it feels really good.
Start by taking out the vacum cleaner...
GO NOW!!!

I hear you there ! We get tired of housecleaning and cooking day after day for years. What I do is just tackle one room a day. Then just cycle back over and I know the rooms are getting done at least once a week.

Some good (fast) music gets me moving. Try setting a timer and seeing how much you get done in an hour, but make sure you really go for it, sweat! You'll feel better afterwards.
