Mitosis is the process by which a cell separates its duplicated genome into two identical halves. It is generally followed immediately by cytokinesis which divides the cytoplasm and cell membrane. This results in two identical daughter cells with a roughly equal distribution of organelles and other cellular components. Mitosis and cytokinesis together is defined as the mitotic (M) phase of the cell cycle, the division of the mother cell into two daughter cells, each the genetic equivalent of the parent cell.

the two cells which are produced through mitosis from the parent cell. in the cell cycle, cells go through the process of duplication of all important components for example DNA, translation machinery. After which, it proceeds into mitosis of which there are 4 phases prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. After which cytokinesis occurs. Prophase is when the chromosomes in the nucleus begins to condense. microtubules assemble and move one out of the two centrioles to opposites ends of the cell. the nuclear envelop also breaks up. in metaphase, the bipolar spindle apparatus forms and with the spindle microtubules, the chromosomes line up at the spindle equator. in anaphase, the 2 sister chromatids in each chromosome split to form separate chromosomes and are pulled to the separate ends of the cell. in telophase the nuclear envelope for each set of the chromosomes form and mitosis is complete. cytokinesis would occur whereby the one parentcell would split to form two daughter cell

Identical cells that are the result of mitosis. The 2 resulting cells have identical DNA which is also identical to the DNA of the cell that produced them (mother cell).

when you have one cell, it's called the mother cell (the first cell), when that mother cell divides into to seperate cells, it will divide in half, creating to new cells (daughter cells)
