You should try midol anyways. All the pills works different on people. It may not work for your friend but may work for you!

See a doc!!! Serious cramps, like the kind that prevent you from functioning, can be a sign of a serious health problems. Once you get a clean bill of health you can focus on relieving the pain.
I understand menstrual pain. I used to miss work and school every month and spend the whole first day throwing up and crying from pain. I have literally passed out before because I was in so much pain. I wound up in the hospital after such as epidsode (the staff at the college was understandably concerned when a student fainted in the hall) and was so embarrassed to tell the paramedic that it was simply cramps. I now take Naproxen, which is a prescription muscle relaxer. Taking one the night before menstruation begins keep cramps from becoming excruciating. If you have irregular periods, and are therefore unsure of when your period will begin, you doc can prescribe birth control to make your menstruation regular. Birth control has also been known to lessen cramps, so that alone may be enough to ease your pain. The key to controlling menstrual symptoms is being open with you doc.
As far as the person who suggested not taking medication, I understand that point, but it doesn't always work. Don't treat symptoms, treat problems, but that's why it's so important to see a doc, not avoid them. The most important thing is to be sure there is not something more serious going on. Excersice can help subside symptoms, as can warm baths and lying on heating pads. I exercise reguraly, and, unfortunatly, it's not enough to fight my pains. Warm baths and heating pads or great when you don't have to work or go to school, but you can't skip responsibilities to lay at home.

I get terrible cramps too, so I sympathize! Midol is useless. I used to take muscle relaxants my doctor prescribed, blue pills called ANAPROX I think. Since the pain is caused by a muscle that's too tense or uptight, anything for muscle pain should work (ADVIL, Tylenol etc). I find the worst cramps are on the first day. If I take 2 pills before the pains get really bad & then take more every 4 hours then it's bearable. By the 2nd or 3rd day the pains usually lessen...
Good luck. I feel your pain!

DO NOT GO TO A DOCTOR! Do NOT take any PAIN SUBSIDING Pills.
Those are just bandages for the problem.
You need to drink lots of water, and excersize about 60 - 85 minutes per day of your period.
If there is still some pain, take in a few sweets to relax any migraines and cramps. It's also good to do some stretching in the hips.

You should see a Gynaecologist. If you are not, you should be on the "pill". It will regulate your periods, and the cramps will stop. Try this - a heating pad on your lower back, feet elevated, quiet music, warm drinks, and any of those meds you mentioned may help. I so sad for you darlin! but take my advice seriously and see a doctor. This is the 21Century and you don't need to suffer anymore.

If you can't sleep then heat is the best thing for any kind of cramping. Fill a hot water bottle and place over your abdomen. As far as pain relievers go, they're pretty much all the same.

Yes like others are saying, all painkillers affect people differently. It doesn't hurt for you to try something different. Try Motrin too. You could also explain this to your doctor and he might prescribe some Tylenol 2 or 3. A hot water bottle is good to use too.

I use Midol myself but if you cut down on caffeine, salt and sugar that will help with the cramp as well.. Exercising helps too.

Midol helps different women. It helps me every month. I would get the green box, it's non-caffeinated! The blue box is good for your daytime activities, this way you are energized & you have minimal cramps.
