Rather then building it yourself, you may want to consider going to a used furniture store. Beds and bed frames are sold quite often and may even be cheaper then the price of the material. If not, at least you would have an idea of size and proper construction.
A platform bed is usually associated with a water bed so that might be the best place to start.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/WoodworkingPlansAndTechniques
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Blackvel : You Go Girl!! Good for you for giving this a try. Don't let anyone make you second guess yourself.
follow the directions the fellow at the top of these questions gave you (HB) and you will succeed!.
But as a suggestion if you do make it in two halves then after you get them set up drill a hole in each half and fasten them together with a nut and bolt.

Well the easiest way is to measure your mattress and make the plattform 1/4 wider than the mattress. Make it as tall as you want and brace it every 8 inches. Material wise I would use 2x4 and 1/2 inch sheets of plywood. That wold make you a basic plattform. Nothing fancy.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.
