Download and install Windows Defender from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en
Once it is installed you go in your control panel, and open "Software Explorers".
While you're at it, you might as well run as scan.

A firewall like Zone Alarm will allow you to keep tabs on EVERY PROGRAM that tries to access the internet. It may be a little annoying giving every program you use permission online, but you can prevent programs that you don't know from accessing the web.
