King Phillip (Philip II of Macedon (382 BC–336 BC; in Greek Φίλιππος = φίλος (friend) + ίππος (horse), transliterated Philippos). was the Greek king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia or Macedon.
He was the first who managed to unite the Greek world!
He was a follower of the idea of Pan Hellenism (the unification of the Greek states and the spread of the Greek culture).
King Phillip realized that the Persian Empire was behind any civil war in Greece! The Persian gold was financing various Greek states and it was used as a way to keep the Greek states fighting one another!
He understands that only a unified Greece (pan Hellenism) was the only solution! And of course under his leadership! And of course he used force!
The tool to achieve this was his New Greek army. An army based on the reforms of Thebes which he had witnessed!
He introduced the powerful new spear the Sarissa (Greek “Σάρισσα” from the Greek verb “Σείω”, I quake a long spear with a thrusting force) which helped the Greek phalanx to involve to its most powerful form, the Macedonian Phalanx. He also created a very powerful Greek cavalry the “etairoi” (Greek “εταίροι” meaning companions) which was the main force of his army.
His victories against the Athenians and the Thebans led to the unification of Greece under his command! He is the creator of the league of Corinth (the league of the Greeks) and he appointed from the council of the league as Hegemon (Greek “Ηγεμόν” leader) and General Emperor.
He didn’t live though to see the success of his policy but he pave the way for his son Alexander the Great to destroy the Persian Empire and to spread the Greek culture and language!
(Do not confuse the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia with the modern Slavic state as they are not related at all!)

Philip(359-336)b.c. King of Macedonia.First I would like to notify everybody that Macedonia has nothing to do with Greek background and Macedonian history belongs to Republic of Macedonia since Macedonians speak separate macedonian language, not even related to greek.
Why is king Philip important? He united all macedonian tribes like(Pelagonians,Phygians,Paeonians,Pelazgyans...) thus make Macedonian kingdom stronger.Philip formed the special military macedonian unit called Macedonian Phalanx.Philip was the first king of Macedonia who invented the macedonian coin "Stater".
It was the first Macedonian king who enslaved the greek-city states. The crucial battle was the battle at Cheronea in 336.b.c also known as"Battle for greek freedom" where Philip and his Macedonian Phalanx overbattled the greeks. Thus PhilipII of Macedonia conquered the greek-city states. He wanted for his extented Macedonian kindom to use the universal language "Koine" which was political reason to unify the enslaved people in Persia,India,Egypt.Another political reason is why Philip united the greek-city states is to take advantage in the war against Persian king DariusIII,thus buliting stronger military on his side.Unfortunately on his way to attack Persian Kindom he got murdered in conspiracy.

Actually contrary to the popular myth he was Alexander the Great's biological father. Also he laid the groundwork for Alexander's conquests by forming the military the way he did. Phillip was actually the one to really introduce cavalry into Greek warfare.
