Everytime I try to hook my windows 98 pc with a networking card, it starts acting goofy, throwing my Norton anti-virus for a loop on it's email scanning, crashes internet explorer & the high speed internet doesn't come through on it. What can I do so I can use my window 98 pc with my high speed connection??

- I would start by disabling Norton completely (until you choose to restart it) so it doesn't interfere with the rest
- Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->System->Device Manager tab
- open the section Network Adapters by clicking on the + next to it (if it's a minus it's already open)
- if the card's name shows up there but has a red X, yellow check mark on it, or you have something called "Other Devices" with yellow marks on top, then you right click on it and choose uninstall or delete and reinstall the manufacturer's driver
- if the card has jumper settings, verify they are not in conflict with other hardware
- try a different adaptor

The latest win98 drivers for the network card, plus manual TCP/IP settings would be the best. All your online software, ie. Norton, IE, should have the correct network setting in their Options/Setting/Preferences also. Windows 98 should have no problems handling a high speed connection, if everything is set-up properly.

All sugestions are very astonishing. And if the older laptop has a Nic Card, you shouldnt have a concern making the two see each ootehr and flow filers. although if all fails, why not open up the two computers grab an IDE HD from the previous laptop and connect it to the recent one (because of the reality that the recent one has IDE help and not in basic terms SATA) Be stable.
