When it does this, shift down to 1st with the lever, then manually shift to second. If it works, could be the second gear solenoid inside the tranny.
I am pretty sure this transmission is electonically controlled and doesn't use a vacuum modulator, but I've been wrong before.
Shifting manually should override the electronic shifting.
If you need the tranny repaired, find a local ATRA certified shop. DO NOT go to a tranny store like AAMCO, where all they do is sell transmissions with very high parts markups.

the 2nd positioned up isn't undesirable, I supply this to boot. you could work together the snatch with out making use of from now on gas. particular you could snatch in a form of strategies, yet to widen your adventure you may desire to comprehend the mechanical limits of the equipment you're working with. in case you place the vehicle in 1st equipment(snatch depressed) and slowly, very slowly ease decrease back off the snatch you will start to experience it grab the flywheel. Your automobile will start to pass forward and then on a similar velocity proceed to diminish back off of the snatch. you could stall it some situations and it is a splash jerky in the previous each little thing yet once you practice like which you will replace right into a specialist at clutching. From there you could test with the gas a splash. The smallest quantity of gas which you utilize will bring about the smallest quantity of injury on your snatch. getting to grasp to snatch is often tough on a automobile so the swifter you get it down the extra effective. in the previous you already comprehend it you will have the gas and snatch completely synchronized for a rapid takeoff so which you would be able to circumvent injuries, maneuver by using site visitors and of direction be a getaway for financial company robbers. whilst shifting gears you will locate the candy spot the place all you could desire to do is depress the snatch, shift and permit off the snatch with out gassing or lurching the vehicle. in case you have a tachometer you could shop your eye on it to make certain the place that candy spot for shifting is. i desire this helps stable luck!

check the cable for the passing gear. It will hook into the side of the carbrator if its broke it will NOT shift right out of first gear. "it should hook up right next to the throttle cable". If thats not it, are you sure it doesnt have 2 much transmission fluid?

I think there is a vacuum line on the tranny. It seems to be leaking air.
Or....perhaps a transmission service is in order. Change the fluid and filter, if it hasn't been done recently.
I'm gonna guess the vacuum line.

I live in Australia and so I am not familiar with your model. However most common cause for that is a split or broken vacuum line. Any steel or rubber lines that go from engine to gearbox need to be inspected very carefully looking for cracks or breaks.
Hope this helps.

I'm not 100% sure but it could be the modulator valve on the transmission, if it has one, not getting the right vacuum or has a hole in the diaphram inside it.

well it sounds like you are having a problem in your valve body. Take it to a trans shop and have them service the trans filter and flush out all of the old trans fluid.
