hit the "watch on line" link and read the descriptions of the main participants in the 1st 2 years of Iraq and understand that Iraq may be considered in the future as the worst fiasco in American history. I have always been against the Iraqi war intellectuallly (not emotionally) because it just seemed too simplistic...that the Administration was not only duping everyone, including premeir career government bureaucrats, but themselves as well. I actually don't think so lowly of Bush, it's just the people surrounding him that seemed to be incompetent or just so stubborn as to bring us all down to justify their actions. But after watching Frontline on PBS, I am left with my mouth agape at the sheer stupidity of the whole thing. according to the show, we have been operating in fantasy land the last 2 years.

I could never understand the thinking after Gulf One. Did anyone think Saddam was going to reform and repent in ashes and sackcloth? It became evident it was a big mistake to aid him in the 1980's. It would have been more merciful in the long run to go ahead and do regime change right after Kuwait was won back. It is just eerie that George Herbert Walker Bush's son would come along and want to fix the whole thing. Family issues do not belong in government. Many companies will not allow the hiring of family members - I think it is called nepotism. Saddam is a thug and now at his trial he is making fools of the coalition. - using his speaking time as a platform for further inflaming. The whole affair feels like a thing gone terribly wrong - the guy is merely a thug and not that smart . What a different world this would be if the Saudis would have taken bin laden up on his offer to kick Saddam out of Kuwait (he might have been able to do it because he succeeded in kicking Soviets out of Afghanistan). I feel very uncomfortable when "W" holds hands with the Saudi prince knowing that all but one of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi citizens. And if Pakistan is an "ally", I hate to see what the non-allies must look like. Let's be clear - leaders of North Korea and Iran are thugs, but they are not just thugs. They can see if the U.S. is bogged down in Iraq and they are able to make plans and influence people. Tough talk in the beginning has come back in our faces because we still do not have bin laden and some lieutenants. In my question about Iraq and "Pandora's Box", one of the answerers said at the bottom of Pandora's Box was hope.
The thinking person sees the absence of hope in the present scenario. Recall that Japan ended up getting into so much trouble in WW2 because they did not have oil reserves to build their empire so they had to take risks and invade countries to obtain this. What happens if a major conflict erupts and so called "allies" decide to withold oil because of religion considerations (that is the ultimate goal of bin ladenists is it not?)?

exciting, Cheney's ineffective incorrect. His interpretation of the form is the main liberal i've got ever seen. Conservatives are meant to be strict interpreters, and we of course have a constitutional gadget with tests and balances, 3 branches of government able to usurping one yet another in diverse techniques. i don't think that could desire to get replaced because of the fact of human nature. Cheney likens the presidency to a dictatorship, and he's ineffective incorrect. If any stable can come of this, possibly he will push government privilege so some distance that it quite is going to be constitutionally challenged, so as quickly as and for all we are able to set precedent on how this capability is quite not abused interior the destiny.
