The International Lawn Tennis Challenge Trophy is officially known as the Davis Cup.The tournament was conceived in 1899 by four members of the Harvard University tennis team who came up with the idea of challenging the British to a tennis showdown. Dwight F. Davis, was one of the players who designed a tournament format and spent the money from his own pocket to purchase an appropriate sterling silver trophy. It was renamed the Davis Cup following his death in 1945.

The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis run by the International Tennis Federation and is contested between teams of players from competing countries in a knock-out format. The women's equivalent of the Davis Cup is the Fed Cup (known as the Federation Cup before 1995).♥

The International Lawn Tennis Challenge Trophy very quickly became known as the Davis Cup, as a philanthropist of the game, Mr. Dwight Davis, donated it in 1900 to the tennis community. Davis was a pretty good player, a doubles specialist, and his donation of this bowl was as significant as the All England Club's effort to nurse the game back to health in the 1870's.

Pakistan Board has made the whole issue a Joke. They ban Akhtar and when they loose they call him back, same thing is going with Asif, he was guilty for carrying drugs but he is free to play. They banned him for a year before then lift the ban. I think ICC needs to step in specially in Asif case before WADA takes any action against Pakistan Board and ICC
