Soreness is caused by lactic acid build-up in your muscles. One of the best ways to prevent soreness is by stretching after a workout. I've been running and lifting weights for years now, and i can honestly say that there is no way to totally prevent soreness(especially when you just start up after an absense)... but stretching after workouts will at least keep it to a minimum. Eating bananas can help, and there are also supplements that are made to speed up your recovery time.

Since you have just started exercising, you need to monitor for few more days if there is any more sores. You must do some warm up before you start any exercises.
If the condition persist, you may need to seek medical attention from your family doctor

the more you work out the less it will hurt the next day. You can try taking protein drinks to "feed" your muscles and help them repair themselves after a workout......you can go to a place like GNC and see what kind of supplements are "hot" now. It used to be things like creatine, but I'm kind of out of the loop now and not real sure what the next big thing is.
