Originally it was going to be filmed in black and white, but the producers talked Hitchcock into filming in Technicolor because of the film's then graphic nature.

It was in color. Haven't you ever watched a colorized version of a film? The actors almost always look waxy, and the clothes are generally some hideous concoction of pastel meets neon.
