Good Question.
Magnification is just power of an instrument to enlarge things...
Just as you would increase the size of an picture in your PC by zoom function.. it would enlarge it...
Resolution : is power to show two closely situated particles as different... that obviously improves quality of the picture..
Just as you zoom in using Optical zoom of your camera...
Resolution is also important for a microscope as magnificatio is....
The magnification of human eye is 1.
and the resolution is 1 micron.
i.e. It will not magnify a thing and two particles spaced at adstance of 1 micron will be able to be seen different.
No wonder objects closer than this will be seen as one.

Resolution is how many dots of stored information make up the picture, magnification is how closely you are looking at it.

If you are creating an image for printing it needs to be 150-300 dpi (often times) - that is the resolution. That is how many pixels are needed to give you a fine quality when printing. On a computer screen you need 72 dpi to look nice - the difference of ink versus light for media makes this difference.

In either case you might want to zoom in for fine detail work (say taking the red out of the eyes in a photo). You might want to use 200% magnification to get in close and see this area at a size you can manipulate - but when all is said and done, it will print or be viewed at 100% magnification as the end result usually.

Peace!

Magnification is scaling an image to be larger or smaller. Resolution refers to being able to distinguish features.

An image with higher resolution can be enlarged (magnified) and still show details.

resolution-the degree of sharpness of a computer-generated image as measured by the number of dots per linear inch in a hard-copy printout or the number of pixels across and down on a display screen.

Magnafication-The ratio of the size of an image to the size of an object.
