The big draw of the C2D is the increased speed of your frontside bus. Regardless of what the core clock speed is (Something like 2.4GHz, for example) The Core 2 Duo will generally appear much faster because the data can get from the RAM to the processor and back to your active programs a lot faster than it can with a Pentium D. With the advances in computing now, core clock is becoming a lot less important than Data Bus speeds (FSB in particular) and internal/external caches. Also consider if you're a power user, the C2D runs much cooler, and uses less power than the other Intel models, so it's a real beauty for overclocking.

Whichever you choose, just make sure your motherboard supports your processor (Both should use Intel's newer LGA775 socket) and if you decide to go with the Core 2 Duo, make sure the board also has a rated FSB at ~1033Mhz.

Let me try to clean this up a bit. Both are dual core processors, but the Core 2 Duos are newer and faster. They are faster because they use a newer and better architecture, and also the fact that they have a higher front side bus. They do not technically do twice the work that a normal processor does, they can just do multiple things at a time. The Core 2 Extreme is the best for $1000, but the advantage over the $300 Core 2 Duo is not really worth the extra money.

Everything you have is good except your processor. Pentiums aren't good for gaming. Get a Core 2 Duo, Quad Core, or I7. IYour processor is a pretty low power one. Also, recommended settings are all wrong! Never trust them! Even though your processor is 3.2 GHZ you should upgrade from Pentium, it's more important about how much better the processor is, not about the GHZ speed. GHZ speed would only matter to be compared in higher end processors.

core 2 duo processors are better because they use less energy by 40% and performance by 40% better than a pentium d processor. note: get a core 2 duo extreme processor, it is about $1000 for one and it is the fastest processor so far.

Hey there,

It's better to have the Core 2 Duo processor because it can do twice the work that normal processor would do but with out slowing down.

Hope this helps.

they are all dual core processors just different versions. They are all good but the newest one is always the best.
