Hmmm ... does she have to lift things all day long? If so, I don't blame her. It's hard enough carrying around the extra weight of the placenta, increased volume of blood and a 7-8lb baby.
If she only has to lift things every now and then .... it depends on how stable her pregnancy is. If she's had a prior miscarriage ... I'd say it's better safe than sorry.
A healthy woman should have no problem lifting anywhere from 5 to 15 pounds ... on occasion. I was 8 months pregnant with a 10 month old baby to care for ... there was no way getting around not picking up my 10 month old baby. Most women with toddlers pick them up all day long ... while pregnant with another. There's no reason as to why your g/f can't pick up 5-10 pounds, on occasion ... if she's healthy.

give me a break, I was 37 years old and pregnant and had a farm to run. I was packing 50 pound sacks of grain and hauling hay until I gave birth, PLUS my job was teaching handicapped kids. I had 7 kids in my class, all in wheelchairs and all over 50 pounds. I just hefted them over my belly and toted them around all day and THEN went back to my farm at night. Some women can't lift in the later stages, but ONLY if they have a complication that restricts it. Your girlfriend is just using the prenancy to be pampered. Go to the doctor's appointment with her and ask him.--------I also got kicked in the stomach by our horse at 5 months pregnant (had a real cool horse-shoe shaped bruise on my tummy) and my Doc said unless I was bleeding or cramping then the baby would be fine. they are totally insulated in there. She is now 14, beautiful and a straight A student.

If her job requires heavy lifting, standing, walking, or physical exertion, your doctor may advise you to cut back on hours, and possibly stop working altogether in the last few weeks before birth. Because she might have trouble with balance as her pregnancy progresses, tasks involving this responsibility could become difficult or even dangerous. It's also not advisable to climb during pregnancy because a fall could seriously harm the baby.

Unless she is having complications- like bleeding and the md told her- she could probably lift more than 20- that is 2 gallons of milk- a package of butter and a lb of M & Ms- she is not fragile or broken- pregnancy is not a disease-go with her to the md if you can- and nonchalantly ask him about it- D

Honey she can do anything, that she did before she got pregnant. It is what her body is used to. I would say that toward the end I would cut back a bit. I had seven children and didn't change my routine until I was at the end and I would tire faster. But don't let her hand you that line, unless you talk to her doctor about her limits. Good Luck and God bless.

That's true. She can't do dishes, mop, sweep, or dust. Better hire her a maid...
Only kidding..
If her job is strenuous then its a good idea to quit but she should be able to lift 5 pounds.
