its a matter of simple economics....like pricing something at $199.99 as oppased to $200.00 even.
Its a ruse to make you think you're getting something cheaper than what it actually is. "psyche".
as far as paying the .9 cents, the machine just rounds it off to the nearest pennie. ( just think ..every ten people getting 20 gallons of gas just donated 2 cents each to the oil companies for their annual executive bash, complete with lap dancers. "BOO-YAH!!

you pay for 2 dollars worth of gas becuase we dont have tenths of a cent. Its a scam because when you pull up you think " hey gas is a 1.99." but your really paying, 2.00 per gallon. Just a way to make you think you paying less for gas then you really are.

so they can squeeze every penny out of you. think of it as 1.999 and you paid 2 dollars for gas, you will get less gas if the price then if the price was 1.990. Lets for some math and move the decimal point over $1999 and $1990. instead of paying $1990 for something, you are paying $1999.

It's simple resale strategy. It sounds and looks cheaper to the consumer. $2.49 9/10 looks a lot cheaper on the board than $2.50, just as buying a car you usually see a price similar to $12,999 instead of $13,000, or a home at $299,900 instead of $300,000.
It's all part of resale.

You can't. You'd pay 2 dollars. I believe the fraction covers taxes.

Its just marketing or deception. You paid .05 percent less than $2 which is darn close to nothing, but when you drove up you thought, "dollar ninety-nine..."
