my son had a wreck and someone stole his cpu and they are dumb enough to let it log on under his name i just don't know where they are at

my sons cpu was stolen in houston when he had a wreck who ever stole it logs on as him still and his girlfriend has actually got them to chat with her

Since this involves a stolen computer, you should contact your local police department.
They may be able to persuade the service providers involved to map the location... if it's connecting via, say, DSL or cable-company broadband, they can tell the PD what address it's at.
Phone dialup is trickier...

I have had my anti virus software alert me to intrusions and it had a link to follow that gave an area. My intrusion it was from (gives an IP address) the middle of California. It was like a map with a star on it but no direct details. I had the Anti virus preferences set to sensitive and it became very annoying at every little thing so I lowered the sensitivity. I doesn't do it anymore.

You can't unless you can get their IP address. If they email you, you may be able to get that by right clicking on the email and hitting properties, but otherwise...it's just best NOT to divulge any personal information about yourself.

I think the best thing you could do if you dont trust them is not to chat to them.

No, as a normal civilian you cannot find where they are.
