It's said that babies can be soothed/relaxed by playing them the sound of a human heartbeat, because it reminds them of their mother's heartbeat when they were cozy and safe in the womb.

That may be the case with babies, but it's not with me!! For as long as I can remember, I've actively DISLIKED the sound of heartbeats. It makes me feel very uneasy and anxious, and even kind of "creeped out". :( If I hear this sound on TV, in a movie, in a piece of music, or whatever, I immediately want to turn it off.

Does anyone else feel this way? (And if so, do you have any idea why?)

It seems odd that such a natural noise, and one that's supposed to instinctively make us feel good, makes me feel bad. But as odd as anything might be, most likely there are always other folks who feel the same! *chuckle*

Yes, the sound bothers me, too. I have to hear my patients' heartbeats through a stethoscope, and I've always thought the sound is irritating (My patients aren't irritating- I like my patients to have a heartbeat. That's always a good sign.)

But when I wake up suddenly, usually if I'm especially tense or anxious, I hate the sound of my blood pulsing in my ears.

Maybe I hate it because it's a sound I associate with anxiety.

When I was a little kid it really bothered me. I would lay my head on the pillow and I could hear my heartbeat in the pillow and I didn't know what it was. I called it "the hip hops" because that's what it sounded like to me. It really disturbed me until my mom told me it was just the sound of my heart beating. I don't know where I was going with this story.....

Yes, I am bothered by it. I hate when they use it in movie trailers - it's irritating. Sometimes I am bothered also by the sound of breathing.

Other times I'm really sensitive to all sorts of sounds - and that usually indicates a migraine coming on.

Check your pulse, and find one to match.....We are given heartbeat like an engine is provided with an oil pump....w/o it, the engine willnot run.....Breathe deeper, close your eyes, and make a bright light out of a darkened sound in your mind.....
