As mentioned since 1900 the Mets have the most losses with 120. The 2003 Tigers came close losing 119 games. They won 5 of their last 6 to avoid tying the Mets. The 1899 Cleveland Spiders of the N.L. went 20 and 134. Their owners bought the St.Louis Perfectos (later the Cardinals) and figured St.Louis would draw better so they transferred the better Spider players like Cy Young Jesse Burkett and Bobby Wallace. Their attendance was so bad in Cleveland that they played 85 of their last 93 games on the road. They finished the season going 1 and 39 in their last 40 games. Probably the worst team since 1900 was the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics. They won 36 games and lost 117 (3 less then the Mets but they played 8 less games). They Athletics won the pennent in 1914 but owner Connie Mack got rid of all of his best players and they lost 109 in 1915 before losing 117 in 1916.

It was the 62 Mets. They had 120 losses, the next closest team was the 2003 Detroit Tigers who had 119. Pretty good to go from almost tying for the most losses in a season to going to the World Series.

Gee, I'm not sure... who was it..... hmmmmmmm... but I do know that the DETROIT TIGERS hold the American League record for losses in a single season.
(Jeepers, Georgie... you didn't happen to ask this question to act like some spoiled kid whose daddy just got a raise before christmas.)

That would be the 1899 Cleveland Spiders; they lost 134 games that year, including 40 of their last 41 games.
