Schools use the results to monitor the child's progress between year 2 and year 6. If, as I did, a child attends separate infant and junior schools, it gives the new school a reasonable idea of the standard a child is working to, and the level they should be at when they leave the school. Results may also be used if a school chooses to put the children into ability groups for certain subjects such as maths.

It would depend on the school, teachers who are worth their pay cheque will know how the children are doing and be adjusting lessons and activities according to their abilities and weaknesses in every year of school regardless of SATs results
