Yes, I had one for years and i thought when they built the house it was put there to drive me crazy! At times I would flip the switch, flip the breakers just to see if I could figure it out. It wasn't until 2 years later that I found it was a second switch for my fireplace.
I figured out that I always tried the switch in the summer when I had the gas shut off to the fireplace so it wouldn't work anyway.
O.K. , I'm a dummy, but a honest dummy !!

I used to have one about 8 years ago and finally discovered it controlled the garbage disposal in the kitchen... we had to rush my friend to the ER! Seriously tho, usually weird switches like these tend to switch the power to the closest outlet on and off. Plug a lamp into each of the outlets closest to the switch, then leave the house and ask a friend to flip the switch.

YEP!!! i do have one by the front door one is for the ceiling fan but the other i have no idea, but I'm afraid that its a switch that keeps moving Kim Jong IL nuclear bomb pointed at California because i accidentally cut it on last week and i think it moved . LMAOFSLOL. Just not sure if it that or did i start the blast on the TV show JERICHO

IT LOOKS LIKE A LIGHT SWITCH BUT IS IS A SWITCH FOR A PLUG USUALLY THE ONE CLOSES TO THE SWITCH PLUG SOMETHING IN AND THEN FLIP THE SWITCH YOU WILL SEE. ALL HOMES HAVE ONE MOST PEOPLE PLUG IN A LAMP AND THEN CAN JUST FLIP THE SWITCH AND TURN IT OFF.

yes!. it has a note next to it which reads: dont flip the switch. my grandfather put it there ages ago and the family never asked him about it, he's now deceased and noone has flipped the switch since 1982!

Yes but I flipped it and nothing happened, so I try and do it every day just for good measure.

i have a light switch next to my kitchen one, and i've flipped it a couple times, and i cannnot for the life of me figure out what it does...so i basically leave it alone...
