Though recognized as a sport (just watch ESPN3 or 4), I don't think it qualifies as a sport. Sports are games. Games have objectives. What's the objective of cheerleading?
There is competitive cheerleading, but that is moot. You can make any task a competition, when you add more than one player (or team).
The original purpose of cheerleading, to imbue a team with 'spirit,' cannot be technically considered a game. Therefore, it cannot be a sport.
Plus, I hate cheerleaders.

Only if you are competing. Sports usually are a competition of some sort, who wins... In cheer leading, you mainly are just cheering. However, it has gotten so much more athletic since I went to school, so it is probably more of a sport now. If you compete with other schools, like in some sort of a match, or competition, then I would say those were sports. If you are just up there cheering and flipping around, then I would say no.

I dont think it is a sport, I think it is demanding and takes skill and hard work and determination, but it is in no way a sport, and it is to bad to me why anyone wud want to try and make it a sport, like the challange alone does not speak for itself, it is entertainment, and there is nuthin wrong with that

cheerleading is a sport. (competitive cheerleading). it takes practice, strength, and teamwork to pull off a full routine. anyone who says cheer isnt a sport, id like to see them try it for a day. its definately not an easy thing to do.
in something like football or soccer, you dont even have to like your teammates, in cheer you depend on them, you need to work with them and most of all you need to trust them.
in basketball for example, if you mess up its nothing compared to if you mess up in cheer. cheerleaders dont throw a half pound ball around, they throw 110 pound people around! its not something to be taken lightly, and there as just as many injuries un cheer (if not MORE) than in any other sport.
ive had black eyes, huge bruises, and sprains from cheer. its not uncommon to hear stories of broken bones, and concussions from cheer either.
i could go on and on forever about why cheer is a sport but i dont have the time because i have to get to bed. (cheer practice tommorow morning!)
like i said before, anyone who says cheer isnt a sport, i DARE you to go to a practice and give it all you got. i guarantee youll walk out of there with a changed attitude.

No, I don't think it's a sport. Sports have set points. You score a goal in soccer, one point.
Cheerleading doesn't have set points. When you compete, you get points off and for different things.

I know it's a sport. I was in marching band, and I know how those girls work! People don't consider marching a sport either, but six years in it, I can tell you different!
