Chicagoland is an informal name for the Chicago metropolitan area, used by local residents, businesses, governments, and planning agencies. Being informal, there is no precise definition for the term "Chicagoland" – at its maximum, it can include the city of Chicago, Cook County and the nine surrounding counties in the state of Illinois, five in Indiana, and one in Wisconsin.
The term originated in the pages of the Chicago Tribune in the 1900s.

We live in Chicagoland because it's much better than saying "chicago metro area"...that's so boring! Also, the area considered Chicagoland is bigger than what most people would consider the metro area..it includes towns 50 miles outside the city, and even the very south edge of Wisconsin and NW Indiana.
