I mean me, as one little indivual. Not the state, not the nation, not all of humanity, not the world. Can anyone suggest some things that I can do to help stop poverty? Even helping one homeless person or poor person or someone who can't eat everyday would make me immensely happy.
Any suggestions? It can be small, big, outrageous or logical, as long as it's doable. I'm willing to do all that I can.
More details? Just ask!

The best way in helping one individual is by showing him/her how to help themselves. If you give a bum money, cool they will live the life of a king for the day, but tomorrow be a poor man again. Guidance knowledge and skills is the best way to help.
Concentrate on one person showing them the doors to open but, they have to open them themselves!

Sadly it is impossible to stop poverty in the long run as peoples perceptions of being poor changes, UK - I poor I cant afford a car, Ethiopia - I'm poor I cant afford food or shelter. If you gave the Ethiopian both food and shelter then yes they would be very grateful, do it for the whole country and within 20 -30 years they would still class themselves as poor compared to each other. Its all about their point of view.

I don't think you can by yourself stop poverty. If you wanna do social work and help the poor, I'd suggest you open a homeless shelter, you can start by giving out meals at first, then if you get fundraisers maybe you can buy a propriety and make it a kind of homeless hotel (lol, sorry i dunno how to call it, but u probablu get my point). I hope you the best! It's a very noble thing of you to do!

I saw a bumper sticker that summed it up:
LIVE SIMPLY SO THAT OTHERS MAY SIMPLY LIVE.
If we buy those things we need, not "want," we could save money and the Earth at the same time. With that money, one can buy food for the homeless, or donate $ to churches/food banks that serve the homeless and poor. That would be a good beginning.

Catch fish for someone and they will have food for a day, teach them how to catch their own fish and they'll have food for life. I personally think that helping by simply giving to people makes them lazy. If you teach them basic life skills and exchange knowledge with them, you can both learn something from it and they can pass on that knowledge to others you don't have the opportunity to meet. Helping homeless people is good, but teaching them these life skills they need is better. Good luck. Being a teacher is the best thing that has happened to me.

Not to be mean to you, but maybe instead of sitting here asking questions just go out, walk down the block you live on and see who needs help. Then help them. No poverty in your block? You're smart, you will find a way.

Maybe look at this organisation, there are a lot of different ways to help out & it seems to me a really sensible & realistic way of genuinely helping women on a low income ....

I dunno, it's up to individual I think. For me, I would talk to the person whom I want to help, give him some money, try to get him a job and buy him working clothes and give him money to last till the first pay day. I think that's how I would help.
